Chinese New Year Check List

It’s time of the year where you see RED everywhere and the word Ang Pau brings dollar signs to your eyes! And of course, it’s always time for FOOD FOOD FOOD! Kammpung Chicken, Nian Gao, Mee Sua, every food you can think of! Plus d juicy Mandarin Oranges! The excitement is overpowering……

It’s the exciting month where we can visit our relatives and friends and shamelessly siphon cash from the elderly (in the form of red packets). Here is the ultimate CHECKLIST of stuff that you gotta have before you embark on “balik kampung”. Make sure you have everything for CNY on this checklist!

Phone Check
1. Top-up your prepaid card! What’s a celebration without wishing all your friends Happy Chinese New Year? Plus, you’re bound to get bored when the old folks are chit-chatting, so top-up to sms your friends during these times…

2. Remember to bring your phone chargers as well as your camera/ MP3/ laptop chargers.

Vehicle Check
1. Check the brakes on your vehicle as well as other stuff and make sure the experts take a look at it before you embark on your loooong journey home.

2. Check the route that you’re taking to avoid any other ‘technical problems” like getting lost or ending up on the wrong highway…save time and fuel. Also, find the best route to suit your journey to make your journey shorter and quicker.

3. Check for the fuel level, as the road can go for miles and petrol stations are scarce.

4. Check the toll rates and prepare enough cash/top-up your “Touch n Go” to cover the toll.

Body Check
1. Make sure you’ve had enough rest to undergo the long and taxing journey. Stock up on caffeine during your long trip home and plan ahead to make sure your body gets enough rest before heading back home again…

2. We know it’s the season to be merry but drinking overload causes you’re happy isn’t a good excuse! Going overboard on alcohol is never a good thing, no matter how merry you are. Remember, moderation is the key!

Social Check
1. People are bound to visit you or vice versa, so it’s best to look spanking new in your new garbs. Make sure you bring along your new clothing and make sure they’re comfy! You don’t wanna spend the entire evening adjusting your top during a family dinner, do you? Also, it’ll be wiser to just choose clothes that will accommodate that swelling tummy after a nice, fulfilling meal…

2. We’re begging you here to please clean up your house. Show your guests a dusty, unkempt habitat you call home and you can never show your face in polite society ever again!

3. Stock up with food, especially with mandarin oranges, cookies and drinks to entertain your guests with! Be a god host and treat your guests to yummy CNY delicacies and they’re bound to be back!
